Pinstriped Menswear - Not Just For Men!

I saw a dress on a Google Image search and I had to have it. So I challenged myself to draft a custom pattern. I like the white buttons better. What do you think? I would add it to my pattern line but it might be difficult for some to custom fit.

  1. That's a fabulous dress - love the detail - it raises the whole thing above a plain dress. Oh yes, add this one to your collection. PLease

  2. Debra. That's an amazing dress you've drafted and made. Wow.
I'm about to draft a shift from scratch and your dress motivation for me to get cracking.

  3. Love it! Can you draft this to MY measurements? I can so see that in navy pinstripe with a red jacket!

  6. I'm late to the party--lovely interpretation. I like the darker buttons, too. It's in keeping with the menswear theme.

I'm curious as to your measurements when you draft for yourself?

    1. I am 5'6" and my measurements are 38 28 46 with a high hip of 41. My weight fluctuates but the average is 175lbs. When drafting for myself, I start with custom pattern blocks. I have a 13 inch difference between my waist and my high hip measurement, so I prefer more waist ease and less hip ease. This allows plenty of waist definition while minimizing my disproportionate hip girth. I wear a size 14 RTW in pants or skirts and a size 10 blouse, but of course, since I prefer more fitted styles, I am often unsatisfied with the fit of RTW.

    2. Also I wanted to add that for the photograph, the back of the dress is pulled tight to the form and pinned. Think like how they dress store mannequins with the back waist clipped.
